Beautiful curtains begin long before they reach the window. Behind each finished pair are carefully prepared fabrics, neatly worked seams and small details that take time to get right.

At Heritage Curtain Studio, we make bespoke curtains in our own workshop, combining practical construction with careful hand finishing. These workshop photographs offer a closer look at that process, featuring a richly patterned paisley fabric in shades of green, gold and red.
A Closer Look at the Fabric
The character of this fabric lies in its intricate pattern and woven texture. Curving paisley motifs and fine decorative details give it depth, while the muted colours bring warmth to the design.
Working with patterned fabric requires care from the beginning. The direction and placement of the design need to be considered when preparing the panels, so the pattern looks balanced across the finished curtains.
A fabric like this can become a focal point in a room, complementing natural wood, soft neutral walls and traditional furnishings.

The Details Behind the Finish
Our photographs show the fabric laid out on the worktable, with the lining being positioned and the edges carefully finished by hand.
These stages are less visible once the curtains are hanging, but they are an essential part of their construction. Neat edges, carefully secured stitches and well-prepared corners all contribute to a considered finish.
Hand sewing allows us to control how the layers sit together and make small adjustments as we work. It takes patience, particularly where folded edges and different layers of fabric meet.
Why Lining Matters
The lining forms an important part of a bespoke curtain. It gives the reverse a neat appearance, helps protect the decorative fabric from direct sunlight and contributes to the way the curtain hangs.
Different rooms call for different choices. Standard lining, blackout lining and interlining each offer distinct benefits, depending on the fabric, the desired appearance and how the room is used.
At Heritage Curtain Studio, we can discuss these options with you as part of planning your curtains.

Made to Suit Your Home
Bespoke curtains give you the freedom to consider every element together: fabric, dimensions, heading style, lining and length.
The heading influences how the fabric gathers and falls. The length changes the overall impression, while the choice of lining affects both appearance and function. Considering these details together helps create curtains that suit the window and the room around it.
The accompanying interior visualisation illustrates how curtains inspired by this paisley fabric could look when hung. The workshop photographs show the actual fabric and hand-finishing process.
